Q&A: Natalia

"Natural Light"  – Capturing Moments and Embracing Nature as Medicine. Natalia hails from South Africa, a soft spoken, creative force she weaves moments into timeless images.

Inspiration: What inspired you to become a photographer, and what type of photography do you do?

I got into photography through my love of storytelling and film studies, where I realized how powerful a single image could be. I'm a lifestyle photographer who works with natural light and loves shooting outdoors. When I'm with models, I keep my direction light - just enough to make them comfortable while letting them move naturally. What I'm really after are those genuine moments between poses when people forget about the camera but still look their best. Nature and beautiful light are what really drive my work.

Perspective: How has being both behind and in front of the camera for Teeki Boutique influenced your perspective on photography?

Being on both sides of the camera is my secret weapon! And the real stars of my selfie shoots are my cats! ☺) I fell in love with Teeki Boutique during my yoga teaching days, so wearing and photographing the clothing felt completely natural. This firsthand experience is gold when I'm directing models. I know exactly how the fabric moves, which poses showcase the designs best, and when something feels forced versus authentic.

Versatility: Beyond photography, what other creative skills do you bring to your work as an image maker?

Beyond shooting stills, I bring my filmmaker and director background into everything I do. I'm not just taking pretty pictures, I'm telling stories. When I'm shooting Teeki and WithLove collections, I'm capturing more than leggings, I'm showcasing a whole philosophy about living in harmony with our planet.

Earth Lover: Earth Month is a time to reflect on our impact—what sustainable habits do you practice in your everyday life?

Earth Month is every month for me! I'm constantly trying to reduce my footprint. I never leave home without my reusable coffee mug (coffee lover problems solved!), and I'm on this ongoing mission to eliminate plastic from my life bit by bit. I walk or ride my bike whenever possible and shop local, sustainable products as much as I can. My practice is not perfect by any means, but it's a daily intention that flows through my personal life and my work life.

Nourishment: What nourishes your body, mind and soul?

I nourish myself holistically by embracing nature as medicine. In my garden sanctuary, I practice patience by sitting quietly with my camera to photograph hummingbirds in flight. The garden serves as both studio and meditation space, where the gentle buzz of hummingbird wings reminds me to appreciate life's fleeting beauty.

Brand Love: We would love to know how our brands support you in your daily work as a photographer and what do you love about our pieces?

Teeki and WithLove pieces are perfect for my photography lifestyle! I need clothes that move with me whether I'm crouching for angles or hiking to find magical light. What I love most is their incredible versatility, especially when traveling. I can pack just a few sets and be ready for anything! A photoshoot, yoga session, spontaneous swim, or even a night out with simple styling.

Community: How can photography inspire and empower communities to connect with nature and embrace sustainability?

Photography has a unique power to inspire environmental connection because images can bypass intellectual barriers and speak directly to emotion. When I capture someone feeling amazing in their Teeki gear while surrounded by nature, it creates this visual connection that makes sustainability feel accessible and beautiful. I've seen how images can inspire people to rethink their relationship with the environment without having to say anything.

Creative Advocacy: What creative elements do you think are essential for highlighting sustainability?

For sustainable fashion, imagery needs to feel real, show practicality, beauty and comfort, all while connecting to the bigger environmental picture. I love using natural light and settings that complement an earth-loving mission.

Travel: If you could photograph one place in the world to showcase its beauty and fragility, where would it be and why?

The ancient Kauri forests in New Zealand! These sacred spaces with 2,000-year-old trees have an otherworldly presence that would be perfect for capturing our deep-ecological connection to nature. These forests tell such a powerful visual story about time, resilience, and our responsibility to these ancient beings.

Advice: What advice would you give to someone looking to embrace a more sustainable and mindful lifestyle?

Just start somewhere! Notice your habits without judgment, then make small changes where you can. Finding community can make everything easier. And most importantly, find joy in it! When you connect with why you're making these choices, it stops feeling like sacrifice and starts feeling like living your values. Teeki Boutique and WithLove shows us how sustainability can be beautiful, functional, and fun.
